Rebecca Leffingwell
Director
 Rebecca is a Talbot County native and has deep roots with TAYC’s Junior Sailing Program. She was a student, sailing Optimists, Lasers and 420s, from 2003 to 2010. She returned as an instructor for the Introduction to Sailing Course in 2018 and 2019, and also acted as assistant Junior Sailing Director in 2019. Rebecca has worked extensively with kids having been a lifeguard, swim instructor and sailing instructor since high school. Rebecca graduated from Salisbury University in 2017 and has spent the last two years working at schools in Madrid, teaching English to Primary and Middle School students. As Director, Rebeca will focus on providing our younger sailors with strong fundamental skills.

 

Chloe Hudgins
Chloe Hudgins grew up in Jensen Beach, Florida, where she learned how to sail. She is a junior at the College of Charleston, in South Carolina where she is on the sailing team and studying History and International Studies. Chloe has experience sailing Club 420’s, International 420’s, and collegiate dinghies like the FJ and Z420. She has qualified and competed in two I420 world championships, and multiple national and regional championships. Chloe’s past summers have been split between sailing and coaching at her home sailing center, the US Sailing Center of Martin County. Chloe has taught private lessons and group classes in Opti’s and C420’s.  Chloe will lead our C420 Race Team this Summer, as the team looks to build on its successes last year and compete at the next level.
Will Devine
Will Devine is a California native, but started sailing at TAYC when he was eight years old.  Will is from Piedmont, California and is currently a senior at Saint Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco where he sails at the St. Francis Yacht Club. He has also skippered and crewed for the St Ignatius Varsity sailing team.  In the Fall, he will be attending UCLA in the fall and will sail on the UCLA sailing team.  He has raced Optis in Maryland and currently races FJs and 420s all over California and the West Coast. Will also has a strong family connection to TAYC; his father, aunts and uncles grew up sailing and coaching at TAYC.  Will is excited to share his love of sailing with kids in the program this summer.  He will be working with our Optimist sailors to get their sailing to the next level and to get them ready to race.
Madi Norris
Madi Norris is returning to TAYC for her second Summer as an instructor to coach the Intro to Sailing class.  Madi is an Oxford local and currently attends the University of Richmond majoring in Business Management. Starting her sailing career at the age of eight at TAYC. During her time as a sailor at TAYC, she mainly raced lasers but also loved to hop in a 420 with friends. After her first season coaching the introductory class, she is excited for another season!
Billy Rust
Billy is from Easton, Maryland and is a rising junior at University of Maryland studying Mechanical Engineering. He grew up sailing in Oxford and attended the TAYC Junior Sailing Program for 6 years, sailing both Optis and 420s. He also sailed competitively in high school on the Saints Peter and Paul sailing team. Last Summer, Billy was a Junior Sailing Coach for both Optis and beginner 420s. He’s excited to stop reading textbooks and get out on the water with some mini sailers.
Colin Ward
Colin Ward is returning for his second summer as a sailing instructor at TAYC. Colin is from Easton, Maryland and has grown up sailing at TAYC, starting when he was eight years old. At TAYC, Colin started out sailing Optis but later went on to sail Lasers and 420s. Colin spent five years on TAYC’s Laser racing team. Colin also represented TAYC in international regattas such as the Orange Bowl Regatta. Colin sailed with TAYC throughout his time in high school. Colin currently attends Wake Forest University where he is studying Business and Computer Science. While not sailing, Colin enjoys playing basketball and lacrosse. Colin also enjoys going fishing and going snowboarding during the winter. Colin is very excited to be coaching again this summer.
Skylor Sweet

Skylor Sweet has been sailing on the Chesapeake Bay since he was six years old, and is an experienced racer.  He grew up sailing at the North East River Yacht Club.  As an Opti sailor, he finished 2nd in the CBYRA high point overall series and won many regattas. Later, as a C420 sailor, he was 2nd in the CBYRA C420 high point series for two years in a row, and was the C420 Maryland state champion, 2021 Oxford Regatta Champion, and winner of the Mid-Atlantic Midget Championship. Skylor will be attending Connecticut College in the Fall, where he will compete on the sailing team.


 Although this is his first year coaching at TAYC, Skylor has many connections to TAYC.  He has sailed at the Oxford regatta the past nine years, starting in the Opti Green Fleet class in 2013.  He also sailed with the TAYC C420 team for two weeks Summer with his crew, long-time TAYC sailor Ava Arepally.  Skylor is looking forward to a great summer of teaching and coaching at one of the best venues on the Bay.
