History

In 2006, a group of TAYC sailors grew concerned that active sailing participation at the club was lower than the general interest level. In order to increase the ranks of active sailors at TAYC, this group became the Focus On Sailing Program Development Committee and began building the adult sailing program now known simly as “FOS”. The program was started in 2007 and was generally considered to be a success by heavy and light users alike and its programs and activities have been enhanced in response to participant ideas ever since. Focus on Sailing:

  • Is Inexpensive - virtually unlimited access to a ready-to-go boat for about the cost of a one-day charter
  • Provides Easy Access – less than 10 minutes from the parking lot to underway
  • Has Something For Everyone - adults of all ages and skill levels can enjoy a variety of social and/or competitive sailing experiences
  • Builds Skills – Learning programs for beginners and advanced sailors alike

The Boat

The Ideal 18 is an open keelboat which is easily single-handed with its self-tacking jib or competitively raced with two people using its spinnaker. The Ideal 18 can seat up to four adults or two adults and up to three small children, making it perfect for family outings. The boat is equipped with four adult size PFD’s so adults bringing children along must provide properly fitting PFD’s for them.
