Check-In/Dropoff begins at 8:30 am. Parents may not leave junior sailors unattended prior to 8:30 am and must pick-up junior sailors at the end of their class.
J-TAYC Junior Membership is required for all Non-Members of TAYC. J-TAYC membership is $50 per individual child. (This requirement does not apply to grandchildren of TAYC member if fees are charged to the member’s account).
US Sailing Membership: To participate in TAYC Junior Sailing programs, all sailors are required to be members of US Sailing (either individually or through a family membership). If a sailor does not have a current US Sailing Membership, TAYC can obtain a one-year Membership for the sailing for $10. If you elect to obtain a US Sailing Membership through TAYC, you agree to and authorize the transmission of the sailor's name, date of bith, address, email and phone number to TAYC to US Sailing for the purpose of obtaining a US Sailing Membership
Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association membership is required for Race Team members, and must be obtained directly from CBYRA.
Introduction to Sailing (Ages 6-7) Introduction to Sailing is an introductory course for younger students. The course combines basic sailing instruction and sailing in groups with fun and activities at the club. The course runs as series of eight 1-week sessions, with half-day classes (9 am to 12 pm and 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm). Prerequisite: None. Start Dates: June 20, June 27, July 5, July 11, July 18, July 25, August 1, and August 8. Optimist 1 (Ages 8-10) Optimist 1 is the beginner Optimist course. It focuses on building the skills and confidence of sailors sailing their own boats. No prior sailing experience is necessary. Beginning sailors generally benefit from more than one session of Optimist 1. The course runs as a series of four two-week sessions. Prerequisite: None. Start Dates: June 20, July 5, July 18, and August 1. Optimist 2 (Ages 8-13) Intermediate and advanced sailors in Optimist 2 will master the skills taught in Optimist 1, and build new advanced boat handling and racing skills. Optimist 2 sailors are encouraged to work on racing skills and participate in racing at the club, but racing is not required. The course runs as a series of four two-week sessions. Prerequisite: Optimist 1 or equivalent. Start Dates: June 20, July 5, July 18, and August 1. Seafarers (Ages 12-15) Seafarers is a recreational class for sailors who don’t want to race. The course is focused on building strong sailing skills, seamanship and fun! Sailors will sail in Lasers and C420s.The course runs as a series of four two-week sessions. Prerequisite: None. Sailors registered prior to May 27th will receive a t-shirt and a completion medal included in the cost of registration. *Registration costs pro-rated for classes beginning July 5th. Race Teams Classes Optimist Green Fleet Green Fleet is the introductory level of Optimist racing. Green Fleet sailors will travel to regattas with the racing teams and will work on refining and developing their sailing and racing skills.
Prerequisite: Optimist 2 or equivalent.

Optimist Race Team The Optimist Race Team will compete in Optimist Red, White and Blue classes at regattas through the Chesapeake Bay region. Optimist Race Team sailors will refine sailing skills, tactics and race theory. Prerequisite: Optimist Green Fleet. Start Dates: June 20, July 18. Laser and C420 Developmental Race Teams The Developmental Race Team is intended for sailors who are committed to racing, but who do not have experience racing in Lasers or C420s necessary to compete at the high level of local regattas. Sailors on the developmental team will gain experience in the Laser or C420 and more experience with racing tactics and theory. The aim of the Developmental Team is to compete in regattas in the later part of the Summer. Prerequisite: Optimist 2 or equivalent. Start Dates: June 20, July 18. Laser Race Team Laser Race Team sailors will compete in the Laser class at regattas throughout the Chesapeake Bay region, while developing their sailing and racing skills. Prerequisite: Optimist Race Team, Developmental Team or equivalent. Start Dates: June 20, July 18. C420 Race Team C420 Race Team sailors will compete in the C420 class at regattas throughout the Chesapeake Bay region, while developing their sailing and racing skills. Coaching at all regattas is included in the cost of registration. Junior Instructor Program Experienced sailors aged 16-18 can volunteer as Junior Instructors (JIs) during any of 4 two-week sessions during the summer. JIs assist Sailing Camp instructors or Race Team coaches with daily activities. Prior to volunteering, JI must complete all of the requirements of US Sailing Level 1 Instructor (the costs of Level 1 Certification are covered by TAYC).
